Money exchange and theatre tickets in London?

Can anyone advise if it better to change currency US$ to GBP at a money exchange or a bank in London. Also as I am travelling in early September I am looking at going to a theatre matinee-any ideas what is on and what you would recommend.
take your ATM card and just withdraw money. The bank will give you a better exchange rate than a money exchange and you can also use the post office to change money.
