The inside scoop on cheap theatre tickets and theatre ticket deals

cheapest way to get tickets for london theatre/musicals?

Hi there, I am new to London and I want to do the rounds and see what the west-end has to offer… Esp interested in Mary Poppins, Wicked, Chicago, Blue Man Group etc.

What is the best and cheapest way to get tickets? And where from?

Should I book months in advance, or go to the theatre on the night? Or on the web? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Ha… brother Vlad..

In Kazakhstan we take ticket from puny looking guy outside theatre… it not cost a penny… if he call police.. you must quickly jump in tank and blow the place to pieces…

Is great funky night out… enjoy..

I wouldn't have thought you'd get cheap tickets for Wicked – the advance sales were too high for them to reduce any tickets. You may have some luck with Mary Poppins or Chicago but don't count on it!

To get hold of cheap tickets have a look at lastminute.com (they currently have offers on for Blue Man Group) or whatsonstage.com to get tickets in advance – alternatively if you are in London try the booth in Leicester Square or any of the ticket agencies which surround it to see what is available. If you log onto http://www.officallondontheatre.co.uk you can see what is available at the official half price ticket booth on that day.

An alternative would be to turn up at the theatre on the day to see what they have. Unlike Broadway, don't expect there to be ticket lotteries or last minute deals – but if you don't ask you don't get!!

If there is a specific show you want to see then I do advise booking up in advance – for weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) performances you may be looking at months in advance, for week days you may be lucky and get in within days/weeks. If you don't mind what you see then I'd suggested just rolling up to the booth in Leicester Square and seeing whatever you fancy on the day.

Hope you have a good trip to the theatre.

lastminute.com are great. they often have deals at the moment some tickets are up to 70% off. Also there are tickets booths around london for example in leicester square where you can go on the day and buy tickets for that evening. You have to be open minded about what you want to see but generally they have a good choice. Mary Poppins tickets are hard to come buy cheap from my experience but its best to keep looking on last minute and see if they come up

I live in Cardiff but I feel that what I do applies to London as well. Firstly I would try to work as a member of the front of house staff at the theatre in question as this usually means that you get to see most of the production for free but you get paid at the same time.

Otherwise if you get involved with a local hospital radio station you could then write to the local theatre and ask if you could go and see things for free and then review it on your show.

It works
