New Opportunities for Cheap theatre ticketshave opened up with two of this year’s most popular London musicals having their runs extended well into 2012.

The Million Dollar Quartet
This means new tranches of tickets coming onto the market and after the theatre breaks companies have booked up their blocks, there will be plenty left over for the cheap theatre tickets market.
The Million Dollar Quartet only opened at the Noel Coward theatre in February 2011, but is now booking until Saturday October 27th 2012. As a four person show, Million Dollar Quartet is quite reasonably priced anyway. It’s the story of when Elvis Pressley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis came together and jammed featuring a string of hits from the 1950s and 60s.
We Will Rock You originally opened at the Dominion theatre back in May 2002, and can now be booked right through until Saturday March 24th 2012. With a story by Ben Elton and choreography by Arlene Philips, We Will Rock You is the archetypal big London rock show and features all the favourite hits of Queen to tell a compelling story of dark possible future. The Dominion Theatre is a large venue, so the show has done well to keep filling it for ten years, but there are sometimes seats available with cheap theatre tickets midweek.

I have been asked about cheap theatre tickets for the new stage musical version of The Wizard of Oz in London next year, and all I can advise at this stage really is to book early rather than later. The advance tickets are selling steadily and while there is still some availability for the early months, once these start to sell out – and sell out they surely will, then the only way to get decent seats after that will be to buy Wizard of Oz theatre breaks.
There are two reasons why The Wizard of Oz London musical is attracting so much interest. The first is because it’s a new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, and so many of his have been big hits in the past. Just look at Evita, and Joseph and Cats, Phantom of The Opera, Love Never Dies, and there are many others too.
The second reason for all the fuss is because of the leading lady star of the show, Danielle Hope who was selected by viewers of the TV casting show Over The Rainbow earlier this year. Not only was Danielle absolutely adorable and winning in every way, but also so were a large number of the runner ups. In fact the girl who came a close second, Sophie Evans is going to be starring in the role of Dorothy as Danielle’s understudy and on every Tuesday as well as on Danielle Hope’s pre-booked holidays.

So The Wizard of Oz in London is a hot ticket already and the best bet for cheap theatre tickets is to know your dates well in advance and book through the usual online channels or better yet, go for a Wizard of Oz theatre break with best available tickets and a central London hotel for the overnight stay.

Also Wicked does a lottery 2 1/2 hours before every show. This is also another option if you are unable to get tickets if they are sold out or remaining seats are too expensive. You put your name in a hat and they draw 13 names from the pot each person they draw gets 2 tickets for £25 each in the front row for the show that evening (be sure to bring cash because they won’t accept credit cars for the tickets). Bring a friend and have them put their name in too so they can have a chance to get drawn. Sometimes there are alot of people and others night the crowd is moderate. I went and got tickets on my first try. Just have a Plan B in case your name doesn’t get drawn that night.

Take the tube down to Leicester Square, and wander around the streets there. There are several streets dedicated to buying tickets at half price or so for the various shows. You can also try the TKTS booth in Leicester Square, and they sell a lot of shows for between 25% to 50% off. They sell matinees and evening shows, though they only sell for the same day. You will also have to line up rather early to be guaranteed good seats, but a lot of people prefer TKTS because you definitely won’t get cheated and have to pay more.
Also, if there is a particular show that you want, call the theatre and see if they offer any special deals. When Ewan McGregor and Jane Krakowski were in Guys and Dolls, I found out that the theatre offered the front row of tickets for twenty pounds. All I had to do was line up early before the show, and I sat front and center for cheap! It’s worth a try. Good luck!
